The Mckenzie Protocol is a specific approach to treatment of back and neck pain. It is a structured approach used by properly
trained therapists to identify what areas of the spine are problematic, what type of problem exists, and how to apply the best conservative solution that problem. The McKenzie Method has long been an effective and well researched way of successfully treating back pain. In more recent years, some of the techniques have also been applied to treatment of other joints as well.
* Not all therapy clinics McKenzie Method, though many likely incorporate some aspects.
What can it treat:
- Back and neck pain
- Sciatica
- Bulging, herniated, or “slipped” disks
- Pinched Nerves
- Postural syndrome
- Leg weakness or paresthesia (odd sensations)
- Workplace injuries
- And more…
Clinical Effects:
Properly executed McKenzie techniques primarily reduce (put back into proper place) spinal discs or structures that have become displaced and are placing pressure on sensitive structures such as nerve roots or ligaments. When these structures are effectively reduced, the pain and dysfunction that was caused by their displacement is resolved.
