Iontophoresis is a non-invasive transdermal electric stimulation and drug delivery technique that uses electrochemically charged molecules to pass effects of specific medications through the person’s skin, using a low-intensity electric current. The small electrical current allows ionized, or charged, particles from the medication to pass through the skin barrier in a harmless way that treats the target area while leaving essentially no medication in the patient’s blood stream. Therefore, none of the discomfort or side effects of injected to orally taken medications with similar effects.
* Not all therapy clinics provide iontophoresis.
